Honda's ATC90,
introduced in 970, was unlike anything anyone had seen before: 3 fat
low-pressure tyres, single cylinder 4-stroke engine, handlebar and a
petrol tank, with levers and foot controls like a motorcycle. It opened
up a whole new way to get around outdoors, and created an entirely new
industry centered on the ATV.
1980
HONDA UK motorcycle division imports its first ATCs.
1981
New models of the ATC, specifically for agricultural use, are made available. Using a high and low gear box, electric start, plus a tow bar with front and rear carrying frames, these models soon become popular.
1984
Four wheel drive ATV's are introduced, and all feature reverse gear and are shaft driven. They are marketed as 'all-year-round farm work horses'.
1991
The Fourtrax 200 becomes available, designed essentially for transport in various industrial environments.
1994
Honda UK experiments with imports of leisure ATV models for the youth market with the TRX 90.
1995
More powerful ATVs are available in the guise of the Honda Foreman 400, with its new engine specifically designed for larger load carrying and towing.
