Get On Wins Top Marketing Award! May 2011
Winter Wonderland
The Motorcycle Industry’s Get On campaign, your campaign, has won one of the most prestigious marketing awards available – The Marketing Week Engage Award for Best Automotive Campaign.

At this year’s awards, hosted by Chris Evans, the judging panel, which included the senior marketing and sales directors of Eurostar, John Lewis, Reckitt Benckiser and Ford, selected the Get On Campaign against competition from global heavy-weights such as Ford, Mercedes-Benz, Peugeot and Jaguar and said it was “an innovative campaign with engagement and participation at the heart of it, delivering a brilliant return on investment

The criteria for judging was to select a campaign which truly delivered in terms of brand building and return on investment and the bike industry’s campaign to get more people on to two wheels was the standout campaign within the record number of entries in the automotive category.

Integrating digital marketing, experiential, social media and community engagement with traditional PR and media relations has resulted in thousands of new bikers as a result. Never before has the industry – from training schools, dealers, manufacturers and accessories and insurance companies come together in such a way to help generate future business for the whole industry.

Campaign Director Miles Taylor, said: “This award is recognition of the hard work the whole team has put into this campaign and vindication of the strategy we have put in place. It will hopefully signal a strengthening of the engagement with the campaign by stakeholders for whom their return on investment has been clearly identified by a third party independent body.”

Chairman of the Motorcycle Industry Association Steve Kenwood, commented: “The industry is honoured by having been recognised by Marketing Week and its panel of judges and the weight of the brands they represent. Winning this award is a ringing endorsement by independent professionals of the outstanding success of the Get On campaign strategy and is something that industry stakeholders should feel rightly proud to support.”

UK WORKERS CAN SAVE OVER 346 HOURS A YEAR BY COMMUTING BY MOTORCYCLES OR SCOOTERS

With the clocks having gone back and the days getting shorter, the Get On campaign – which promotes the benefits of riding a motorcycle or scooter – has revealed that the average UK train-commuter can save over 346 hours a year1 (or over 7 working weeks)2 by travelling by two wheels.

Throughout the UK commuters travelling by National Rail take on average 64 minutes per journey, whereas they could cut this time to 24 minutes3 by joining the two-wheeled revolution with the Get On campaign, which promotes the message that ‘Life’s better on two wheels’ via its groundbreaking website www.geton.co.uk.

The time-saving benefits of travelling by motorcycle or scooter have been seen throughout the country, but the highest time savings can be seen in major cities such as London. The average commute to inner London takes a mere 31 minutes by motorcycle or scooter compared to 38 minutes by car, 40 minutes by bus, and an astounding 69 minutes by National Rail4. In London 10% of commuters spend at least 2 hours commuting each day5, so switching to two wheels could save London commuters over an hour a day.

The with the average UK working week being 48 hours6, employees who travel to work by motorcycle or scooter could save the equivalent of more than 7 working weeks by choosing to travel on two wheels, meaning not only huge personal benefits but far great productivity and efficiency for British business.

Commuters wanting to find out more about biking and take advantage of these huge time savings can experience a free one hour riding session by registering at www.geton.co.uk. The sessions, which are available throughout the UK, are designed to give the public a chance to sample riding a motorcycle or scooter before committing to taking their test or buying equipment.

Get On campaign will be featured on the BBC
Get On Approved Dealership
The Get On campaign will be featured on the BBC 1 Breakfast TV programme this Saturday (31 October).

The feature is due to run half hourly between 6.00am and 10.00am and will be linked to the sports bulletin.

The feature will be promoting the message that thanks to the development of bikes and kit there has never been a better time to ride motorcycles and scooters. The piece is being targeted at lapsed riders, as well as new riders.

The piece was filmed last week at the Climatic Windtunnel at MIRA in Nuneaton and sees presenter Mike Bushell experience extreme hot and cold conditions in kit from 1984 and then modern day kit, and draw the conclusion that developments in new kit means riding is now more pleasant than ever before.

The media day was also attended by journalists from the Daily Telegraph, Metro Newspaper, Evening Standard, Irish Times and Motor Cycle Monthly. We shall be sending updates prior to these pieces running so you can look out for them.

Classical Brit Award winners Blake
Classical Brit Award winners Blake have become the latest celebrities to be gripped by the biking bug and give their support to Get On, the groundbreaking nationwide campaign to promote motorcycling and scootering.

With two smash hit albums already under their belt the quartet have won over a global fan base, including A-list celebrities Keira Knightley, Will Smith and Kevin Spacey, while Dame Shirley Bassey specifically requested them to perform at her glittering gala 70th birthday bash.

All four members of the band (Stephen Bowman - from Bath, Humphrey Berney - from Norfolk, Jules Knight – from Sussex and Ollie Baines – from Wiltshire) will now be swapping the recording studio for life on two wheels having successfully passed their CBT – the test required to be able to ride a motorcycle or scooter up to a capacity of 125cc – at Metropolis Motorcycles in Vauxhall yesterday.

The Get On campaign, which is making biking and scootering more widely available to the public by offering FREE one hour taster sessions throughout the country via www.geton.co.uk, has been attracting a large celebrity following since it’s launch last year with former England cricket hero and Strictly Come Dancing star Darren Gough, X Factor finalist and Dancing on Ice champion Ray Quinn, and Boyzone heartthrob Shane Lynch all backing the campaign.

The Get On campaign, which is being supported by the strap line ‘Life’s better on two wheels’, promotes the freedom, fun, flexibility and sociability of biking, along with the time saving, accessibility, cost and environmental benefits, all benefits of which Blake will be taking advantage of.

Oliver Baines said:
“We’re all incredibly excited about getting on two wheels having taken our CBTs at Metropolis. We spend a lot of time on tour buses going from gig to gig and have often talked about how much easier life would be if we were able to get around on bikes. Although we’ve often discussed getting bikes we’ve never really been too sure how to go about getting a licence and what bikes we should start off with. Get On has been the perfect guide for us and taken a lot of the mystery out of biking."
